What vascular surgery covers
Your arteries carry blood away from the heart; your veins carry it back. A vascular surgeon treats the problems that develop in those vessels anywhere in the body except the heart and the brain.
That covers a lot of ground. A bulge in the main artery of the abdomen that needs watching or repairing. A narrowed artery in the neck that raises your risk of stroke. Legs that cramp after walking a block. A foot wound that will not heal. Kidney failure that needs dialysis access built into your arm.
A great deal of this work is now done through a needle puncture rather than an incision. Minimally invasive arteriography, balloon angioplasty, stenting and aortic endograft repair all mean less time in hospital and a quicker return to normal life — when they are appropriate for your anatomy.
Testing in our own office
Our vascular lab in Hackensack performs painless, non-invasive ultrasound studies — no needles, dyes, radiation or anesthesia. Studies are performed by a qualified technologist and interpreted by Dr. Roxana Kline, a Registered Vascular Technologist.
